Areas of Practice


Layburn Speech & Language provides assessment, diagnostic and therapy services for children with communication difficulties. These may include:

  • Early communication development and late talkers
  • Speech difficulties - including delayed speech development, lisps and motor-planning disorders (including childhood apraxia of speech/developmental coordination disorder)
  • Early childhood stuttering
  • Language delays/disorders - including receptive (understanding language) and expressive (using language) difficulties
  • Phonological awareness - building the foundations for learning literacy
  • Difficulties with spelling, writing, reading comprehension
  • Social communication skills - developing social skills for effective communication
  • The communication needs of children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities
